Ezzo parents use it on a puppy!

Friends of ours are militant Ezzo parents and they got a new puppy. Well, of course he's on a SUPER strict schedule - pottying, play time, crate time, eating. They will NOT stray from it and cut short a visit because they had to get back to the puppy. Now, we've had puppies and I understand not being able to leave them in the crate too long but this was absolutely ridiculous!

When they left, DH and I burst into laughing thinking that they're doing "Puppywise". ROTFL!

Yea that... My parents have a cat no they don't Ezzo it

but my dad for some unknown reason is big on Kitty gets fed a 4:30 and will ingnore a meowing kitty because its not 4:30 drives me batty. We never told us we couldn't eat if we were hungry ect but for some reason the kitty needs to wait.

Mom ussually ends up just feeding the cat..

I'll second the not knowing whether to laugh or cry. I think I'd prefer to cry. How can someone do that to a puppy? And why get a puppy? Really...what are they thinking. It drives me nuts!!!!!

Isn't it interesting to watch Ezzo families become slaves to a schedule because they are afraid of becoming 'slaves' to their children's needs.

yeah that always struck me as odd as well, even while I was doing it

I think thats what changed my mind the most, was I was like "uh, how is this helping me?"

A schedule is a good thing for a puppy -- especially one that's not housetrained yet -- but that is ridiculous! I mean, we try to keep Ti on a potty and a food schedule, but he plays when he wants, he goes to his crate when we're not home, etc.

Oh my gosh! This is so true! We have a number of new babies in the church and I know a few of them use Babywise or similar. Well, we had our annual dinner last week and a bunch of the young moms were in the lobby because the kids wanted to run around (the sanctuary doors were open so they could hear - the kids weren't disturbing anyone since it was a fun night - dinner, skits, games, etc., but it was tough to chase them through the tables so the lobby was the best for them). One little guy was running around like a loon having a blast, one baby was crying and wanted to be held but mom wouldn't do anything but just push him around in the stroller because it was 'bed' time and the baby's older sister (just 18 months old) was sitting in the stroller like a zombie with nothing to do or nothing to play with. She honestly scared me the most because she honestly didn't have the look of a baby who was tired but one who has no hope left.

All of these mamas left early.

Now, the OTHER moms - the more AP moms were holding their kids, playing with them and enjoying them. One little guy was fighting sleep yet he had that 'milk drunk' look - and he fell asleep in mama's arms. Joanna, my 3 year old just wanted me to hold her and snuggle with her and I was happy to oblige. Eventually by the end of the evening (we were there until 11:30), my 2 little ones - ages 3 and 5 - had fallen asleep in my lap and hubby's lap and we laid them down on the chairs to help clean up. They were tired but had a ball, as did we.

Now, who is 'changing their life to fit the baby' (from what I understand, a terrible thing to do according to Ezzo and Pearl) and who was still going on with life along WITH the baby? The results of Ezzo and Pearl are total opposites of what they want!

I was so sad for those other babies.

Now see I've seen the opposite. My SIL was adamant about children not sleeping int heir bed for any reason at ALL. They weren't Babywise they just had a thing about babies or children in their bed. She got two Manchester Terriers a couple years ago (they look like minature dobermans) and those two yippee dogs sleep in the bed under the sheets. SIL said that the first night they had them they cried and cried until she let them up on the bed and then she just couldn't bear to kick them out.

When she told us that I looked at my dh who I could tell was silently praying I would keep my mouth shut...
