OIl-pulling/Swishing
I had an abcess a couple of weeks ago. I got antibiotics and then went to the dentist and he promptly sent me to endodontist (root canal). I guess the root or something, he dind't explain? I didn't go to endodontist, cuz I have nothing resembling the $1000-$1200 it cost. And until I have a LOT more problems, I'm not having it extracted.
A friend told me about the oil-pulling, which I"m going to call oilswishing, since I see it cleaning the mouth, even deep pockets, but am not so sure about the whole "detox" aspect. My teeth and gums feel AMAZING. I truly do feel a difference, and its been less than a week. I just wanted to share. The hassle is getting up early and doing it before having coffee, but its worth it.

Re: OIl-pulling/Swishing
Fyi on the root canal (I have no idea how the oil might impact this - this is from a totally conventional dentistry standpoint) when it causes problems, which can be from a few days -> months, it will likely be a more severe infection. People have died from unattended tooth infection (dh knew one ) I know this doesn't have any impact on your inability to afford the tx it's always best to keep a tooth if you can, but if you can't, and care credit is not an option, I know a very good oral surgeon in your area.

Re: OIl-pulling/Swishing
Keep doing it. Dont' put too much in your mouth. Actually, it didn't bother me much I guess. It thins out and gets watery about half way in. I'm lucky, it didn' tmake me gag. Though the sesame oil h as too much taste for me to taste it for 20 minutes, kwim? Sunflower oil has virtually NO taste. Though I swear I got more "results" from the sesame oil. It's insanely expensive though.

Re: OIl-pulling/Swishing
It is great! I need to start it again.
Fwiw, I would never, ever get a root canal. I've had teeth pulled but I'll never have a rc. They're linked to many chronic diseases. The very best dentists I've seen refuse to do them or even refer them out. |

Re: OIl-pulling/Swishing
Sorry for the hijack, but I have to share the website of a dentist I recently learned about. My ND has attended seminars where he was the speaker.
His site talks about the dangers of root canals & the alternative he uses, which is a laser. My ND says he's the country's expert on laser dentistry (including treating a cavity using a laser instead of a drill.) But I guess other laser dentists are popping up. Interesting stuff.

Re: OIl-pulling/Swishing
Sure, tell me the horror story. Also, I'd like to know why an extraction is better than root canal. I do NOT want to be toothless!!! I kinda have big feelings about it, frankly LOL.

For swishing? That sounds easier to manage.

You wouldn't be toothless. you'd get a bridge or a partial which cost about the same as a root canal. If you have the money you can get implants but they're expensive and not covered by insurance, typically. |
