Must save money. Help.
I cloth diaper but...I've always used disposables at night. We need to trim our budget and be accountable for every last penny I need to 100% cut diapers out of the budget but I don't know how to do night time cloth diapering. When I tried it with Owl it was messy and resulting in diaper rash.

Re: Must save money. Help.
woolies help with containment. I put S in a double stuffed pocket covered with wool and there is no wetness on the bed, even when the diaper is super saturated. You can also use a small strip of fleece on top of the diaper to keep him from feeling the wetness.

Re: Must save money. Help.
I finally gave up on finding an overnight cloth diaper solution for DS1. I'm hoping to get ideas for this time around. I don't know about the OP's kiddos, but my DSes soak all the cloth I can fit between their legs within a couple of hours. And DS2 already has a yeast rash.

btw, it isn't cloth, but it is a really good deal to buy disposables on amazon with amazon mom + subscribe and save.

Re: Must save money. Help.
I had good success cloth diapering both (heavy wetting) kids at night. Do you diaper both Owl and the new baby or just the baby? Here was my absolutely bulletproof solution (After having leaks with all different kinds).
Premium Prefold + 2 doublers (heavy duty doublers) inside a Thirsties cover (you'll likely size up). But the premium prefold and doublers will absorb the pee and the thirsties cover will hold it in without leaking (alternately, I had good luck with Motherease side snap covers as well once babies were 6-9 months-ish through toddlerhood). |

Drybees, or another night time dype? More up front, but much better than sposies.

Re: Must save money. Help.
Totsy has Bamboo Baby BeeHinds for $14 each right now - which always worked great for us for nighttime under a wool cover.
You might also try running him to the potty the second he wakes up. A lot of kid don't pee in their sleep and let open the floodgates when they wake up, so it is not just the quantity of pee that overwhelms the dipe but also the fact that it all happens faster than the diaper can absorb it.

Re: Must save money. Help.
Is this for the 1 month old? At that age I changed them once at night.
Used a strip of fleece between diaper and baby's skin. As they got older, closer to one year, I did two prefolds with a wool cover. Then eventualy just did disposable at night like you are now.

Re: Must save money. Help.
Sorry I should have specified this is for my one month old. We have no income right now so I can't buy any more diapers.
The problem I had when owl was a newborn was the same thing Blue-eyedlady described above. ---------- Post added at 10:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 PM ---------- So where does one obtain a strip of fleece? |

Re: Must save money. Help.
With a newborn-- plan to change every couple of hours at night and a wool doubler can be very helpful as well as not add a ton of bulk. I'd also cover with wool no matter what your cloth diaper system is-- I put wool over S's disposable at night when she wears a disposable at night or over her pocket when she wears cloth.
---------- Post added at 09:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ---------- fleece-- really cheap at a cloth store. Craft fleece is precut into rectangles like felt would be and is about the same cost. Try Michaels or Hobby Lobby or even a cloth store like Joanne's. I think I've even found it at WM when they have a decent craft section. It doesn't fray, so you can cut it with any scissors and don't need to do anything at all to the edges. |

Re: Must save money. Help.
Your newborn isn't still getting up to nurse at night? I always changed my kid then.
