update on my cat: she's in congestive heart failure :(

She turns 17 next week. I took her to the vet this evening. I need to think about euthansia soon. I brought her home so my kids could say goodbye and I could snuggle and sleep with her tonight.

She peed on the floor Sat night/Sun morning. Totally NOT like her. She has not peed or pooped since. She hasn't eaten dry food in a few days but has eaten a little canned.

I don't want to 'put her down' if she is content to have me rub her chin and pet her. but I do not want her suffering. The vet said she is some.

I had prayed she would go in her sleep. I hate the decision of euthanasia. sigh

I've had her for about 14 years. She's been through 3 babies crawling on her.

I'm so sorry. I still cry thinking about when we had to put down our 17yo kitty. Its a hard decision to make, even when you know its for the best. Praying for you.

She's laying on the bathroom rug now and ate the canned food I gave her. She stays laying upright, vet said it's harder on her lungs if she's curled up or on her side.

She still seems happy, so I'll love on her and see how she is tomorrow. I might even sleep on the bathroom floor with her.

Thank you. She is a member of our family. It will be so odd not having her. But for right now she needs love.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I slept in the living room with my dog when she was very sick we thought she was going to go that night.

I didn't sleep with her last night. She was on the bathroom rug then I went to check on her before bed and she had gone upstairs and was in her bed. I sat and pet her for awhile. Wondered about if she might pee upstairs and thought "oh well, I'll just clean it up". And she did, same spot on dd's rug. ugh! Guess I'll go find move the litter box up there or find something to use as one upstairs.

She meowed in greeting to me this morning. I'll see how she acts today. I think I'll take it one day at a time. As long as she eats something and acts happy when I pet her, I think I will wait.

I hate knowing it's any day now.

Okay, the vet recep. called me and said we could give her Lasix (diuretic). But that is kind of dumb, I guess, it's just prolonging it for me. She was so sweet in talking with me and listening to me. Reminding me that it's better to euthanise too early rather than too late and she is gasping for breath.

I've noticed Patches eating less for the past month and her sides going in and out more for the past two weeks. I was just in denial.

I am just being selfish and don't want to let go. Tell me Im' doing the right thing if I choose euthanasia tomorrow.

I was thinking about her quality of life. She has not come to the computer desk and gotten in my lap for a couple weeks now and she has not been sleeping on my kids' beds as usual for a couple weeks, she's been under the bed. She does not feel good and really does not want to be in my lap and she is a lap kitty. I have to type this out so I see for myself that she is suffering even if she does like me to rub her cheeks.

I guess I should just get it done so she doesn't suffer any longer and I can sob and heal.
