Naomi Aldort?
Naomi Aldort is the author of Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves, and she also offers phone consultations for parenting issues.
http://naomi aldort.com/ (link broken) She is quite expensive..... but if she's worth it, then I'm more than happy to spend the money. Does anyone have any experience with her? Has anyone else consulted her? Her reviews are pretty much flawless..... Thanks! |

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I'm just now seeing this, but I've never heard of her.
I'd be hesitant to try something like this, in my personal opinion.

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I'd be hesitant too.
I mean, you want to be SURE that the person you ask to consult has values that you want to acquire, right? Otherwise you run the risk of spending a good deal of money on something that isn't what you truly want. Much as I'd like someone to come in, watch me interact with my kids, and tell me how to fix everything...I don't know, I guess I've just seen enough of that happening with "sleep consultants" and I don't really buy that many experts *ARE* expert...too many of them have a "one-size-fits-all" approach, or else a "the end results must all be the same..." And I just don't buy that... |

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I'd never heard of her so I took a look around her site. The thing that stands out to me is that there is very little about her actual philosophy or her methods. It's all marketing. She gets lots praise and endorsements, but for nothing specific. The "Pay first, then you can see how wonderful I am" makes me skeptical. While she might be a wonderful coach, there's no way to know that from the website.

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I had a peek at her site. How was her book? If you have read that and it was helpful and resonated with the philosophy, I would give her a try. Also, you can read through her blog and sign up for the newsletter to get a better idea.
I would say there is a good chance she might be helpful but just as with counseling, some people are a better match for others. You could try the telephone consolation once or twice and re-evaluate if you think it is worth it. I think it is possible that she could hear about your own situation and give specific tailored advice if she is good at it, but only one way to find out.

If you search, there are older threads about her at GCM.

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I enjoyed her book but you should be fully aware that she professionally misrepresented herself as holding a conferred doctoral degree for many years. When it was revealed that she did not have a PhD, it was extremely disappointing in how it was handled.

Re: Naomi Aldort?
I watched one of her free videos when Ivy was a new toddler or older baby. It was really good, but it wasn't anything that I wouldn't have gotten here. She said that blaming a child for hitting his brother while you were in another room is like blaming the pot for the burned rice. You should have been watching both. She explained the thought process for the little boy who hit his brother and why the did think it was a real need. So while it was good and I do like her, I don't think you will get anything new from her. Or at least not anything worth the money she is charging.
