did melatonin ever make your child vomit?
i gave it to him 2 nights in a row. i split a 10mg into 4's. and gave him half the first night.and only a 4th the second.
now he woke up this morning with his belly hurting and he's thrown up 3 times. no fever though..so im wondering if it was the melatonin. i feel really bad i wonder if i gave him too much. or he's sensitive to it or something. i've said in the past i dont like melatonin..and i dont take it anymore. i wish i would have gone with my initial feelings on melatonin and just thrown it away...but it really does help one of my other children sleep..so,i kept it and used it for him sometimes. anyway. did anybody's child ever get sick from melatonin? could this actually be due to the melatonin?

Re: did melatonin ever make your child vomit?
Too much melatonin upsets R's stomach. I never give him more than 1mg (I usually split a 3mg pill in quarters) and always with something to eat.
I found this new stuff at Walmart called "Dream Water". It's a tiny bottle of melatonin infused water from the 5 Hour Energy people. I give R about a teaspoon and it works great.

Both Sage and Thyme have unpleasant reactions to melatonin at any dose. Thyme throws up within 2 hours of taking it.mThen both of them suffer serious night terrors once they are asleep.

Re: did melatonin ever make your child vomit?
If you split a pill that isn't meant to be split, you're not necessarily getting an even dosage of medicine. It isn't always distributed evenly between the whole thing. If you want to use melatonin for him, I'd get a smaller tablet or liquid and dose him in much smaller quantities. 2.5 mg is a good sized amount.

Re: did melatonin ever make your child vomit?
No reactions here the dose she has taken is half a 3mg so 1.5mg doesn't bother my 65lb(give or take a few lbs) 8 year old. We do eat dinner later than most families so its possible she is less on empty stomach than some can be if they take 30 minutes prior to bedtime.
We don't take it daily either. Only if she is having troubles turning down the energy or settling. |
