What would you bring to a halloween themed potluck?
I have 2 this week. I'm thinking of making a custard in a pumpkin thing for one, but I dunno about the other...

off the top of my head:
- black bean and orange pepper salad - decorated cupcakes - "pumpkin pizzas" mini-pizzas decorated to look like pumpkins - jello "eyeballs" - worms and dirt cups |

Re: What would you bring to a halloween themed potluck?
How many people are going to the potlucks? If it is less than ten, there was a cute idea in a Martha Stewart magazine about taking a large pumpkin and cooking a stew in it, and then topping it with phyllo dough and making a decorative leaf and curly vine out of the dough as well, and putting it into the oven until the phyllo is baked.
If it's more than ten, maybe make some kind of pot of stew with pumpkin and leaf and little arched-back cat cut-outs of baked phyllo dough scattered over the top and served on the side? I've got a recipe for a pumpkin cake that uses a cake mix, too, if you're interested. It's surprisingly good! It makes a large cake, too.

Re: What would you bring to a halloween themed potluck?
I like all the ideas! I was immediately thinking "something in a pumpkin."
Or what about acorn squash something? Or hey, spaghetti squash woudl be kind of icky fun. Almost like spider webs in a squash.

Re: What would you bring to a halloween themed potluck?
Thanks guys. One will have 20 kids and mmmm about 8-9 adults. I'm thinking of trying cake pops after reading the cake balls thread. Pumpkin ones, on a stick. I liked the pumpkin pizzas idea too. I think I'll do that.
And the other one is more adults with a few kids...I think I'll do the pumpkin custard for that one. I might still change my mind...it's on Tuesday and Wednesday. Man, I'm hungry after thinking about all this food, and I skipped lunch today by accident. |

Re: What would you bring to a halloween themed potluck?
I would make pumpkin bread (one of our fall traditions) or I would make pumpkin dip and serve it in a hollowed pumpkin with ginger snaps and apples. It's really yummy. I brought it to a potluck a few years ago and it was a hit.
