Take him to the dr or wait it out?
K has had mild diarrhea since Saturday and has been complaining of severe stomach cramps. Yesterday afternoon he started vomiting. He had a break of a few hours today, but now he just vomited again.
But what concerns me is that now his stools have bloody mucous in them. I tried calling the drs office to see if it was enough of a concern to bring him in, or if I can still wait and see. Still waiting for a call back, but I'm sure they are going to say bring him in because that is their advice for everything. I really don't want to unless it is absolutely necessary though, because that involves almost 30 minutes in the car which is not going to be comfortable for him. WWYD? Keep him home and comfortable? Go ahead and take him in if they ever call back? Home remedy suggestions are welcome as well, just bear in mind it has to be something commonly found at home. |

Re: Take him to the dr or wait it out?
I would go in. Once you hit bloody mucus and it isn't letting up than I would go.
I rarely do the doctor. For stomach issues...I usually treat with homeopathic...nux or ipecac. Also I add probodics and more bland foods in at the first sign. Not sure what you have done so far but those are my quick ideas Praying you get a call back soon.

Re: Take him to the dr or wait it out?
They did call back and then the nurse checked with the dr, he said it sounds like irritation and to continue to push fluids on him. Which I've been trying to do but it is going very slowly. I finally told dh to go ahead and bring home Gatorade simply because I know K will drink it more readily than my homemade electrolyte drink or water at this point.
I need to get some probiotics to have on hand. |

also have just found out about the wonderful healing source Bentonite Clay. My kids do better with plain Smartwater than homemade electrolyte drinks or gatorade

Re: Take him to the dr or wait it out?
Does the Smartwater have a taste? He really seems to want to drink plain water, when he drinks anything.
Heading to the HFS later to get some probiotics, I'll have to look for Bentonite clay. ---------- Post added at 08:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 AM ---------- Oh, and we did end up taking him to the ER last night. They did an hour IV, gave him some Zofran and he kept down some juice and crackers. However, he's still feeling pretty crappy this morning (umm, literally) and is refusing to eat anything. Gave him Zofran again so hopefully soon he will be able to eat some crackers. |

Plain Smartwater tastes like water - no taste. When you have been throwing up regular water can make your stomach hurt and cause more throwing up.I make a tray of ice cubes out of it and give as much as they can take at a time - its great.
