Weird question? Is it normal for my shirts to constantly ride up while Hooping? Super annoying. They aren't tight shirts... but so I need to go Looser or tighter? Or just get used to it?

I used coloured electrician's tape on my hoops. I bought it at Home Depot. I'm looking forward to following along and being inspired to dust off my hoops. A made some a few years ago when hooping became popular on the board.

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
We are hoopers. I have some that I made and some that I bought. I took a class many years ago from an instructor who taught hoopgirl classes. We learned a good number of basic tricks in the few hours, and had a lot of time to practice with different sizes/styles of hoops. One of my favorite youtube channels for hooping is: https://www.youtube.com/user/FireSandra She has a lot of great tutorials.
The first video I saw of hers was this one, and it is still one of my very favorites: http://www.hoopcity.ca/video/safire-clipstar-video You can also find lots of info on http://www.hooping.org

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
Can someone explain why they need to have fabric on them? I just bought a bunch of cheapo hoops at the Dollar Tree to make pool warmers - what's special about the hoops on this thread?

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
Mine don't have fabric. Some of mine have special duct tape, some have electrical tape, and some have plain or sparkle hooping tape (which kind of reminds me of the nice, soft tape that is used for gauze bandages.) It is just a matter of preference. Some covers are more comfortable than others.
Usually the special thing about more expensive hoops or ones you make is that they are larger and thicker/heavier. Hoops should come between your navel and your chest when they stand on their end. Most cheap hula hoops are too lightweight and small for adults to use well.

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
SillyMommy: Echoing along what Punkie said, the fabric just feels nice to me. It adds a weight and a bit of grip so that I can keep the hoop up as long as I like.
Making your own hula hoops is a fairly inexpensive and you can custom size them for successful learning. I have tried so many times, could never get it as a kid. And it was because the hoops were too small for me (I wasn't skinny and the hoops were just too light and small for me). For easier Hooping it should come to your belly button or a bit higher and have some weight to it. As younger better you can go lighter and smaller. I have 34" hoops and I am wanting to buy a spool of 1/4" eventually and make hoops that would be good for hand tricks and over head learning (lighter, easier for that sort of thing and less scary to be hit in the face with ).

Oh the smash in the face with a 41" 3/4" hoop recently. Ouch!
I second SaFire. And spiral too.

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
I love hooping and can add some favorite sites later when I have more time. Just wanted to mention as an idea for extra income that I have seen some booths at local fairs selling homemade adult hoops for $30.00-$40.00. They are really so easy and cheap to make in bulk that it seems like a great idea to make a little extra money. Just a thought.

Re: Any Hooping Ladies In the House? SHARE your favorite youtube links?
I still haven't tried making any hoops yet, but am thinking of trying it later this week. I've been practicing hooping for awhile now, and it's so fun, but I really need to have a better hoop or two, so hopefully making one won't be too hard!

Your hoops are beautiful! I made my daughter and I hoops and just used every color of electrical tape that Lowes had to decorate them. but unfortunately we have yet to start hooping. I honestly forgot about them until I saw this thread. lol. Time to get them out and start practicing.
