Preemie and micro-preemie (loss mentioned)
We have dear family friends who experienced a stillbirth at 38 weeks about 11 years ago. Today she called me to get some help with her kids because her niece just experienced a fetal demise at 30 weeks and she needed to get to her.
I know this will open lots of wounds for her. What I was thinking was that maybe I could make some bereavement gowns to donate to the hospital in memory of this little one and her son as a sort of symbol of understanding and support. Off base? I have looked and looked and most of the patterns I saw online seemed kinda 'clunky'. I can go and buy a new pattern, but I also have some doll patterns from dolls from 12-14/16-18/20-22 inches that are actually pretty and delicate. Would it be inappropriate or illogical to use one of these and if I do, what size do you recommend?

I like that idea, but not any help on sizes.

I used the diaper pattern from Teeny Tears for a friend... I think they could help you find a very good pattern if not actually provide it.
Sweet idea. ETA: they also talk about types of fabric to use and avoid because of these little babies' delicate skin. My friend was unable to dress her daughter at all because her body was so tiny and fragile. Teeny tears also says to make a set of 2 (diapers &/or blankies), so the parents can keep one to hold. HTH! I don't really sew, but I would think that doll patterns might have sleeves that are very small/skinny. For ease of dressing, maybe making the dresses, and perhaps even sleeves, in such a way that they can be open at the back and maybe velcroed together?
