We couldn't do substitutes b/c of legume allergies (soy among others)
We're not currently eating vegan , but when we did I learned to use oils for almost everything, or to just skip the butter. Learning to eat vegan with a tendency toward "whole foods" (not much processed stuff) is a lot about thinking outside the box in terms of foods/meals, IMO. Baked Potatoes were tough, b/c I love them with just butter and salt. But Irene had posted a recipe for ranch dip that was vegan and soy-free. (and chili works too) Cinnamon toast I would use an oil mister or a basting brush instead of butter. Vegis can be flavored with broth. Are there are particular ways in which you use butter that you can't think of a substitute for? Maybe some folks here can give suggestions? |

If you want something for bread, I like to use either olive oil or jam.
