Re: Loud Homeschool
That explains it if neighbor had the issue has no kids and works until 3 am.They are probably trying to sleep until at least noon. The people I read about were taken to court to be asked their kids not be allowed to play outside, in their own fenced in backyard during "normal school hours" and I think the judge complied to enforce the request. They were not loud noisy kids either according to the article
---------- Post added at 01:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 PM ---------- Now that I know about neighbors work schedule would def have them do dance parties or loud activities after lunchtime or in another space. Many libraries have craft or story or puppet times in mornings more for preschoolers but fun for older kids too

Of course, I say all of this just in case it's something you haven't thought about. I reread your original post & sounds like it was afternoon when you were making the most noise. IMHO, that's a bit unreasonable even for someone who works late or into the wee hours. Maybe you could bake a batch of cookies/muffins/whatever to try & make a peace offering & ask to help you brainstorm to make you all happy. But I do stand behind what I saie earlier, if they're being unreasonable, I wouldn't worry too much. |

Re: Loud Homeschool
Wow, this totally isn't a homeschooling thing! The neighbor just complained about my kids stomping on their way from the bedroom to kitchen for breakfast at seven thirty in the morning. Yeah it's early but it's before school would start so any kids would do it ya know. Now their saying my kids ripped their porch screen high up (beyond hand reach) and chipped the paint on their car. I have a sad feeling I'm going to be constantly harassed while I'm here. Where would as better place to post to issue be as I am starting to think it has nothing to do with homeschooling and am in constant fear they will call the police on me for keeping my kids home during the day.

Re: Loud Homeschool
If you live in an apartment, it is pretty important to teach your kids that stomping isn't ever going to be welcome....No one likes that over their heads. Ask management if you can be considered for a move to a first floor unit if one opens up

Are you allowed to homeschool where you live? If so, I would just arm yourself with a copy of the homeschool law for your state & have copies of any paperwork you submitted & received back from the school district within easy reach. I also agree that stomping/running/ etc. isn't the best way inside but I also think your neighbor is just being unreasonable. My husband, a 51-year-old man, sounds like an elephant coming down stairs. He's not stomping. He's not trying to be loud. That's just how he walks. I imagine if he were walking around above me, I would think it was loud & annoying as well. |

We had a downstairs neighbor like this person. While it's true we should teach kids not to stomp, my kids still at 9 1/2 and 7 are not 100% compliant. Our middle child wasn't even 3 when we finally left that situation. It was SO stressful! I really feel for you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Loud Homeschool
Not a homeschooling issue and they cant call the police on someone for homeschooling. It is legal in all 50 states right now.As long as you have notified school board or whatever they require in your district.Just in case you might want to ask for something from them to show you are a registered homeschooler. And move.ASAP. If your kids are now getting blamed for every single thing.Same person?

Re: Loud Homeschool
Yeah, this is totally not a homeschooling issue. If a mod could more it to a more appropriate forum I would appreciate it. I
We are moving as soon as I can! It is the same person, I stopped doing early morning and after school child care when he started complaining in early Feb. Before then he was amicable and overly chatty. I thought having no extra kids over would solve the "issue" but then he started complaining about my own kids. My kids don't really stomp in the morning sometimes they skip gleefully if if I have made their favorite thing for breakfast. The worst part is one time he complained it was when I had a seizure, sorry but that's not kids and it would happen if I was living in my own. Now he has started accusing my kids of throwing things at his car, chipping its paint etc. He parks under a tree and there are squirrels constantly dropping walnuts on it. When my kids are in the yard I keep a very close eye on them. It has gotten to the point we just don't play in the yard any more. None of the other neighbors are nosy, complain or anything. Most of them are college students who are particularly non morning people. So if we were truly loud or vandalizing property I think one of the other neighbors would say something to me. |

Re: Loud Homeschool
How soon until you move? Would do exactly that in the meantime. If you end up having to stay would request another unit away from this particular tenant

Re: Loud Homeschool
Apartment living is HARD with kids. Heck, apartment living is HARD without kids. Living with shared walls and floors and ceilings with so many people just adds a huge complexity of a challenge to everyone.
I'd be looking to move as soon as possible, but obviously you are. In the meantime I'd just be as polite as I can to the complaining neighbour and go out of my way to stay FAR away from him and his belongings as is humanly possible. Praying for you as you navigate this situation.

Re: Loud Homeschool
This neighbor works until 3 am? Did I read that correctly? While I am glad that you are likely to be moving soon, he really should live on the top floor. It's not reasonable or realistic to live in an apartment and expect silence during the day. You can certainly be considerate and he can certainly get ear plugs.

Putting on my admin hat: Even though your neighbor is not having this issue simply because you're homeschooling, we feel this forum is as appropriate for this thread as any other we could move it to. It does affect your homeschooling day, so feel free to continue talking about it here.
