Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
Wool can also be more fibre-y if it's put in their mouth

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
My sister made buntings for my youngest. One was a mermaid and the other looked like a football. They are super adorable and wonderful props for pictures! I used them for naps until she outgrew them, so they aren't as long-lived as blankets, but they can be used for dolls or saved as heirlooms.
I found all sorts of sleepsacks to be useful. One of my friends received a mobile made with crocheted birds as a baby gift and she loved it. They still use it as room decor and her daughter is 4. I've got knit dresses that my mom made for me and my sister when we were small that my girls have worn. I'm keeping them for the girls. I've wanted to make jumpers from granny squares for years, but just can't find the time. If you have the time, it would be a really cute gift. DH's grandma made sweaters (both knit and crochet) galore when my kids were little. I've got all colors and sizes. Her crochet sweaters were fairly unconstructed and a-line with straight sleeves (no cuffs), so they fit for a long time. It's a time commitment, though.

Oh, I also think crocheted appliques are adorable on plain onesies, so that's another idea.

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I like hats, especially ones that cover ears - pilot caps, bonnet types.
I like sleeveless tunics/dresses that can be layered over tees and onesies. For babies especially, I far prefer very soft yarns like cottons or acrylic blends. Wool always feels just a little too "there" imo, along with the care needs. My mom made my daughter a knit "mitten" with two thumbs as a puppet when she was a young toddler and it's still a big hit at 6. |

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I really like this http://www.redheart.com/free-pattern...hie-cocoon-set I have to think about how to make it lighter weight though...definitely cotton yarn
And something like these but maybe a little more girly somehow? http://www.ravelry.com/projects/kabe...dile-amigurumi I particularly like how some of the wood is still exposed in these. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I like the cocoon. For summer, I would try to find a DK cotton weight.

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I am thinking of either Cascade Ultra Pima which I believe is either DK or sport weight or else this Shine cotton bamboo yarn that Knit Picks has on sale right now which is a light worsted weight. This is the Knit Picks one http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Shine..._D5420140.html

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
Squee! they have beautiful colors! (I usually do the I Love this Cotton, but they don't have a very large pretty color wheel)
I can't wait to see it when you complete it. |

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
Is the I Love This Cotton the one from Hobby Lobby? Is it a blend?

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
The last time I bought it, the label said 100% cotton. Yes, it is from Hobby Lobby. It says it is a 4 worsted weight, but I think it is thinner than the standard 4 category.
