My 7 year old....
Has been sleeping in his own room for the first time ever, all night long, for the past 4 nights. Tonight, bc DH had to work late I had to put DD (9 months) to sleep and asked DS if he could go get into bed and I would come tuck him in once DD was asleep. I came in and he was sound asleep.
Long story short- I never planned to cosleep and only started doing it because it was the only way I could get any sleep when DS was a tiny baby. And I discovered that I loved it and I cherished those nighttime snuggles and talks as DS got older. We have a king size bed and for awhile DS slept on a twin bed on the floor next to our bed and usually crawled up with us in the middle of the night, and then (I can't remember why exactly) we went back to having him sleep with DH and I all night. Once I got to the stage of pregnancy with DD where I just wanted my own bed all to myself, I moved into the queen bed in the guest room and DS and DH kept sleeping together in our room and it was the sweetest thing ever. They wrestled every night and then snuggled up. When DD was born I kept sleeping in the guest room which became her room and DH and DS kept sleeping together- and I think that really helped DD with the whole transition to having a sibling. DH had been advocating for DD and I to move back into the bed with him and I felt like DD was big enough to sleep in between us at 9 months. So I asked DS (who's had a room of his own since birth but had never really used it and had never slept in it before-- he has a twin bed with a pull out twin underneath it) if he'd like a fish tank and fish with a moonlight setting to help him sleep in his own room, and he loved the idea and had a great time getting fish and is really into caring for them. So we got a 10 gallon tank and the first few nights I laid with him until he fell asleep, and I think the first 2 nights he crawled into bed with us in the middle of the night but for the past 4 nights he's slept all the way through on his own. And he's so excited to have his own room (ha, even though it's been his all along!) and loves doing homework at his desk, organizing his toys, and has asked for posters of his own to put on the wall. I just can't believe he's in his own room. I want to sneak in there and just snuggle him and tie a brick on his head to keep him from growing up. I am grateful for every single cuddle and whispered story, hope, song, and dream we shared with him in those 7 years of his precious little life. He was held and touched and loved on so much more because of all those hours we slept next to him and I am so grateful I found mamas on here who helped me understand all the benefits of cosleeping.

Re: My 7 year old....
cosleeping has been on of the greatest treasures of my life...I love the random nights my 4/year old crawls into bed with us, it's crowded with the bed hogging 1year old, it it is still the very sweetest and the best. I will never regret those years of closeness and snuggles. I love that our bed is their bed.

Re: My 7 year old....
We have always been a musical bed sort of family based on everyones needs. Even cherished the times my young teen dds would sometimes come back to the big bed and dad would go sleep in their bed because of a pesky critter that would burrow in the shrubs and make noise during the night outside her window.
