As for the Ezzos. . . Gary Ezzo teaches that children ought to be "chastised" with a "biblical rod" which he describes as "somewhat flexible, not stiff or unbending" instrument (GKGW, p.220). Ezzo families sometimes describe this being a wide strip of rubber tubing, a rubber show sole, a thin razor strap, or a large glue stick.
A thin razor strap??? That is awful! Like whip them with a knife???

I think he means a leather piece than men use to sharpen their straight razors on - not a 'razor thin strap'. Still pretty bad, though.

Yeah, I don't go to that board anymore. Well, very rarely. I miss getting some good recipes from those mommas, though! But I found that I was not getting enough homeschooling support to make up for all the punitive stuff as well as some thoughts on a woman's role in marriage that simply go against everything I am as a human being... Of course, that's no surprise since I know I am not Christian enough for them, as has been said in almost those words...

HOWEVER, I did post the link to the Pearl-related death on a triplet parenting forum I belong to. And it was well received!

Still sad, but phew, I thought that meant like what they used on Jesus when the crucified him--wasn't it a leather strap with pieces of glass that they whipped him with? Then again since some argue that spanking helps them to atone for being naughty, it wouldn't surprise me any.

Oh dear. I'm glad then, that you asked for clarification! Razor strops have just about gone the way of the rotary dial telephone, I suppose.

My dh used a straight razor for quite awhile or I wouldn't have understood that one either.
