Converting broomstick skirt to a-line or round skirt?
Is this even possible? I have a gorgeous broomstick skirt, but, frankly, it's just *not* a good look for me. I want to convert it to a-line or round, but am having trouble finding a tutorial.
Any suggestions welcome.

Is it too straight, then?
Pic? Does it have enough flare at the bottom to look good if you take in the waist?

Re: Converting broomstick skirt to a-line or round skirt?
It's not so much as it's too straight as that there's just too much gathered material from my waist to my hip. And then the width of that just continues the length of the skirt and gets wider. It ends up making my wide hips look wider, my middle thicker and the whole bottom of me look like a solid block of wide.
Stretched out fully, it's twice as wide as I need it to be at the waist and hip, so I'm thinking I can definitely narrow that part, but I don't just want to cut into it and go crazy without some kind of diy guide, because it's a really pretty fabric.

Re: Converting broomstick skirt to a-line or round skirt?
How about if you pin it first, very carefully with small safety pins, to make a new seam? Then try it on and see what you think.
There has to be a tutorial somewhere. Maybe on craftster under upcycled clothing? Or maybe if you google how to make an A-line skirt, and how to make an A-line skirt with gauze? Maybe a tiered skirt? There are lots of tutorials on making a tiered skirt...you'd lose a couple inches for the seams, but it would be the least work. Hey...would it look okay with a denim top, or is the fabric too fancy for that? I saw a really pretty one the other day that had sort of a denim miniskirt with a thin fabric flaring at the bottom. It looked like it could have been made from a pair of cutoff jeans. The denim wasn't cut straight across...it came down to a point on each leg, front and back, so it had sort of a bias skirt effect.

Re: Converting broomstick skirt to a-line or round skirt?
I've been googling like crazy and can't find an upcycling pattern. There are lots of patterns for a-line and round, however, so I'll just have to figure out how much fabric I have, cut the waistband off and try to do it. Also, there are no seams.
I'd like to just keep it one fabric rather than adding in denim.

Re: Converting broomstick skirt to a-line or round skirt?
I think the problem with taking a broomstick skirt to A-line, if what I'm picturing is what you have, is that the strong vertical lines from broomsticking will look funny on any other shape skirt. Personally I'd start by taking in the skirt, maintaining the straight lines.
Can you post a picture?
