How long should it take for a kidney stone to pass?
Tuesday morning I woke up cramping and feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. I assumed I was coming down with whatever my husband and kids had over the weekend. Wednesday evening, I noticed my urine was now brown. Thursday, I was in incredible pain. Friday, my husband talked me into going to urgent care where they did a urinalysis and diagnosed a kidney stone. They told me to drink a gallon of water in 4 hours and it should pass that night. They gave me some Vicodin for the pain which doesn't work whatsoever then sent me home.
It's now almost a week since this all started and nothing has changed. I'm drinking a gallon plus of water daily and drank almost 2 liters of cranberry juice today on top of the gallon+ of water. I'm still in a ton of pain. Sometimes it hangs around a level 3 on the pain scale which isn't a big deal. Sometimes it spikes up to a 9 or 10. The pain hasn't ever been completely gone. What should I do? How long should this take to pass? I don't have any health insurance so I'm afraid to go into the ER or something if it's not necessary.
