What should I make?

My brother gave me these two wonderfuly squishie balls of yarn from San Pedro de Atacama, Chilli. We are assuming that it is alpaca, it feels like it. It is a fingering to light fingering weight. The light ball is 99g and the dark is 105g.

I have no idea what I want to do with it.

I was thinking about making lined mittens with this on the inside and some rough heritage highland wool on the outside. I wonder if I could felt the outside part before i make the lining? Or what would the alpaca do if I felted the lining as well?

I really want to get some thing for me started soon because dh is talking about wanting to move south next year, so I might not need alpaca stuff next winter and I want to enjoy it.

I would love to make a shawl but I have never found one that I thought I could ware it.

What about a little collar or cowl? They're more wearable than shawls IMO. I don't like working with that weight yarn and I'd want to just sit and pet it

I accidentally "felted" an alpaca hat. I don't know that it felted up as much as wool, but it definitely did some.
