WWYD? Must be enrolled by 7
My daughter is currently 5. She must be in school by age 7. If we wait that long, we just have to send a letter to the superintendent saying we are deferring enrollment.
We intend to unschool. I feel that "officially" starting at 6 is going to make a lot fewer waves than starting at 7 and the only difference is that we are going to be out the enrollment fee (our state, AL, requires a cover school and we've chosen one that only requires the fee and does not need us to provide a curriculum or record of schooling.) So would you enroll this year or defer? |

is there a Umbrella school for unschoolers there? It might be a good idea to join one then you can do what you like and at the pace that work for her

WWYD? Must be enrolled by 7
I think AL recently lowered the required starting age to 6 but I'm not 100% sure on that. My googling abilities are lacking ATM but I can double check later. I do know that I had to fill out a letter of intent for DD this past fall when she was entering 1st grade as a 6 year old. She's at an unaccredited Charlotte Mason style church school but her school is recognized as a cover school and we're regarded as homeschoolers.

If it was me I would go ahead and enroll at 6 especially since your cover school doesn't require records or anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I typically try to fly under the radar, so the smaller the paper trail, the better. If you don't have to submit any curriculum or tracking paper work now, I'd enroll her.
