Default perimenopause?

I know this community is primarily a resource for the mothering years. I found you all when i was being smothered with babies and toddlers
I learned so much about my family's health and over the years I regularly came back to refresh my "medicine cabinet" of information....

But now I am in the thick of perimenopause and I just haven't found a good resource for understanding this season or even what i can do to support myself. It takes AGES to get into any sort of medical appointment and then find myself disappointed there too.

At this point the symptom I am most struggling with is the mood swing in the 2-3 days before my period starts. It is unbearable. Devastatingly deep depression and rage. I usually get PMDD but this feels worse.

Do you have any book or website or blog recommendations? I don't feel ready for HRT yet (not totally opposed to it later), I feel like I have already tried all the supplements but want to know what helps you!
Thoughts?

I'm right there with you in the perimenopause stage of life.

My husband bought me this book (he's very naturally minded and a big researcher, so I know it was a very intentional purchase). I am only part way in but it's good so far. Very interesting.

The Menopause Reset by Dr. Mindy Pelz. She specializes in nutrition and functional health.

Default Re: perimenopause?

I started intermittent fasting at age 42. I'm about to turn 47. I honestly believe this has a lot to do with my hormonal health since insulin affects everything. I follow a clean fast protocol where I do not ingest anything but plain water and black, unflavored coffee for 16+ hours a day. (I actually fast for 20 hours a day but I think the benefits can be achieved with less fasting). This alone has changed my life. It's not easy to start, but once you get used to it, it's way easier to keep it up compared to any kind of diet.

My supplements are a good multivitamin, vitamin D3 with K and for hormones, highest dose of Evening Primrose Oil they sell at my grocery store, and I've been using Dr. Anna Cabeca's products: Julva for vaginal dryness and Balance progesterone cream. I'm about to experiment with NOT using these last two products for the next month just to see how much of a difference that they are making. They aren't cheap.

I recommend seeing a good integrative or functional medicine doctor to get labs done just to see how everything looks. I would absolutely take bioidentical hormones if I were experiencing symptoms like yours.

Inositol works wonders for my depression. Still trying to work out the right supplement for rage though.

I've been taking progesterone cream for about 10 yrs now. It definitely helped me with my premenstrual mood, also headaches and night sweats. I use the NOW brand.

Potassium! I figured it out. Potassium helps with losing your temper.
