Welcome! You've gotten great advice and are off and running. Remember also that Rome wasn't built in a day, and you'll be very encouraged by doing bits and pieces of gradual, lasting progress!

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
Good morning ladies, I am on day 3....so thankful The Lord brought me here... I am giving myself a 'V8' right now. I started off the old way, out of habit, then stopped and said, this isn't the way I want to handle this...back to GCM. They say it takes 2 wks to make a habit, 11 days to go.... Have a great day!

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
We all have moments when we are not the mom we want to me whether its been 11 dayso of GBD or 11 years. Some days are a daily choice or even an hourly choice and sometimes a moment to moment choice. .

What helped me was to remind myself "The more consistent I am, the faster this will become habit and the kid's pushing bounaries will calm down. When I am consistent, they know where the boundaries are."

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
Obviously he's tiny but that type of behavior scares me as my brother did hit my mom once when he was about 12 and gave her a black eye. I don't know whether he had ever raised his hand in gesture before that, but regardless boys making threatening gestures to girls or women freaks me out. DS did that to me once around that age and that is when I discovered my scary calm voice: You will never raise your fist to your mother or to any other woman as long as you live.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
My boys are 7 (almost 8) and 5 1/2. You have made some great progress and thank you for being open to sharing with us. It is helpful for me to read the responses.
jandjmommy, I love what you wrote, "You will never raise your fist to your mother or to any other woman as long as you live. " My question is, how would you enforce this? If your child did this and just mocked you after you said the above? My almost 8 year old has had times of hitting me, pushing me - he is currently in counseling. I am in counseling. We are both trying to understand what is going on when he does this and how to handle it. I have had to literally lock myself in a room to get away from him when he gets into these fits. They are becoming much less frequent, but I am wondering how you can say the above and make sure that it does not happen again? Thanks.
