Default what kind of 1st birthday cake should I make?

My little guy is going to be one next month. Do you have some suggestions for a first birthday cake (vegan)? I'm not sure what to use as frosting, so I'd love frosting ideas, too. <-- imagine that has one candle lol

Default Re: what kind of 1st birthday cake should I make?

My friend made this really cute cake. I think it's from the Ruth Yaron book.

But, she made a spice cake that was cut into squares. Then she piped the icing on so they looked like blocks and each block had a letter. It was so cute and had very little frosting. The blocks were just outlined in frosting. Kind of like the old fashioned wood alphabet blocks.

You can make a buttercream frosting. If you don't eat regular powdered sugar you can grind your own. But, I know many of the canned frostings are vegan although I know they aren't healthy.

Family Fun always has some fun ideas for themed parties if you are looking for an idea. You can alway adapt the cake to your recipe. I'm not much of a theme girl myself.

I was trying to find some cute pictures for you. Aren't these cute? http://cakeblog.blogspot.com/2002_02...g_archive.html
Marlene's should have some natural coloring if you want to try something like that. Those are so cute!
