Anyone use a potato ricer? I am interested in learning about one?
We are eating a lot of potatoes lately due to our restricted diet.
Someone suggested a potato ricer. Tell me about them So far I know that *I can't buy it at target or the grocery store *they range from super cheap to super costly - is this an item where super cheap means super junk

the heavier the better, which probably means more expensive.
mine is from a specialty kitchen shop. they should not have plastic parts. drop soft potatoes in and squeeze. really, it is that simple. i think they are great!! |

I've often wondered what the difference was between ricing potatoes and mashing them.

I used to love riced potatoes when I was a kid because they soaked up so. much. butter.
It squeezes the potato through and almost winds up like fluffy potato spaghetti noodles that break if you so much as look at them wrong. |

If you over mash potatoes, they get gluey and pasty. Ricing them keeps them airy and fluffy. I use a ricer when I make gnocci (potato dumpling pasta) and it keeps the potato nice and fluffy! ---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 AM ---------- Oh, and as for mine, I think I got it at somewhere like Ross for about $15, maybe...and it is definitely metal and very heavy duty. |
