Default Help picking a wrap as a gift?

Hi Friends
I want to buy a soft wrap for my son's teacher who is having a baby soon. All last year I walked DS to school with DD (newborn) in a soft Annajou baby wrap and his teacher always loved it and said she looks so snuggly in there, and when she found out she was pregnant she asked me if I'd teach her how to wrap/wear her baby when she was born. She registered for an off brand one on her gift registry at Walmart but I know she did that just because it's all that's available at Walmart.

What would be the easiest for a new wrapper? I had a Baby K'Tan with DS that I think I recall I liked very well (I had given it away long before DD was born so had to buy a new one and got an Annajou for DD, which I have already given away to my step-sister who's having her first baby soon-- we are well past the stretchy wrap phase and are living in our Tula SSC and Kozy Mei Tai).

So my question is--- would you think for someone new to baby wearing, a Baby K'Tan would be a better option than an Annajou?

I'm not familiar with the Annajou, but I'm assuming it's a woven wrap? The downside to the k'tan is that it will last until the baby is about 15 pounds. It also has to be sized just right, and if her husband is a different size, he wouldn't be able to use it. That said, it's really easy to use. You could probably find one on CL for cheap. If she is interested in wrapping and willing to take the steeper learning curve, I would go right for the woven wrap. It will be much more versatile and last much longer. Not the easiest option, but longer lasting than the k'tan for sure. What a thoughtful gift!!

I'd get her a stretchy wrap b/c they are perfect for newborns. For a winter baby or a mama who is often cold, the Moby or Boba Wrap are a great choice b/c they're thicker. For a summer baby or a mama who runs warm, the Solly Baby is thinner and easier to use.

Thanks so much for feedback ladies... the Annajou is a stretchy wrap just like the Moby/Boba but made with bamboo. It's the big long piece of fabric and I just thought that the K'Tan might be easier because it makes the X for you in the front and then you just pull up the other piece of fabric. But maybe an Annajou/Boba/Moby/Solly wrap would be more versatile for her.

I just remembered I also have a woven wrap (a beautiful turquoise/blue/green EllaRoo) that I only used a few times because I could only master the front carry with it (I use my Tula and my Kozy Carrier Mei Tai for everything and love them both). So I could also give her the EllaRoo.

Ah, gotcha. I thought it was a woven wrap. I think it's a toss up between that and the k'tan. They'll both be good for about the same amount of time (first few months). The k'tan is less intimidating, I think, but the sizing is so tricky. I think a lot of people end up with it being too big, which doesn't work. If she's seen you using it and was interested in trying, then hopefully she won't be intimidated with all the fabric and wrapping. Sounds like you could help her too, which is great!
If she likes that, then I think giving her the EllaRoo would be a super nice gift too!

You are right Esperanza the sizing on the K'Tan is hard... and I think I can get a clearance Annajou for $30 (a discontinued print). So I think I'll get her that, make sure I do a tutorial with her on how to use it, and if she likes it I'll give her the EllaRoo too. I wish I could master a hip carry in it for DD. It is so pretty.

Thanks for helping me think this through!!
