Re: Why do my clothes smell?
We used Nellie's for years and I used to like it, but we starting have smell issues more and more frequently. I'd have to rewash whole loads, use baking soda in the wash/vinegar in the rinse, add borax, etc.
Finally last month I just got sick of it all, came across that Fluff University site while trying to pick an alternative that would work on cloth diapers, and ended up just buying Sunlight Free and Clear (dye and perfume free). So much happier now. So much happier. Sorry, environment. I tried.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
My son has randomly had articles if clothing get a "something died here stench" and no matter what I used I could not rid it. Finally tossed them. Eventually got a new dresser. Hasn't happened since.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
I don't use any special enzyme detergent, but use an enzyme pet spray (like you would use for urine) on anything that starts to stink. Around toilets used by boys, in laundry that I forgot to switch and it wen "sour", pretty much anything that develops an odor. It's pretty concentrated and a bottle goes a long way.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
I haven't settled on a laundry detergent that I love so I mix it up. Some work better than others. If I buy detergent that doesn't work well, I just add a bit of Oxi-clean to the load and everything comes out smelling fresh.

I have Borax as well, but haven't remembered to use it.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
This is such upsetting news!
I just bought Charlie's! Thankfully, I have been using Allen's Naturally on diapers though. Hope that one is okay. Scared to look.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
A cup of regular baking soda added to your wash should remove the smell.
My workout clothes used to smell really bad and it wasn't BO. Baking soda fixed it. Now I use Crystal Wash balls and I don't need to add baking soda anymore. |

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
Sometimes you can clean the machine itself with cleaning tablets or baking soda and vinegar on an empty cycle. I think the washer cleaning tablets might be citric acid. Removed buildup and lint on outside of drum.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
This is what we use. We have hard water. The stain remover spray is amazing as well.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
Did all that stuff with my front loader, doesn't work. The only thing that worked, but not awesome, was technofresh.

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
Last summer our pet sitter left my washing machine CLOSED. . I honestly thought everyone knew that was a huge no-no. . I tried all kinds of home remedies and finally bought Affresh. That worked, for awhile. The smell came back. Then I bought this
Kleenite Kleen Machine Washing Machine Cleaner, 16 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A3QTS7C..._Y-qNzbRW7NM0W It's available for Subscribe & Save, even. It works GREAT. The only downside is that is has fragrance added. But it completely removed the funk. I have hard water so I add I few teaspoons to a load once a week or so to remove calcium buildup. I also add distilled vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser for every load. ---------- Post added at 10:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 PM ---------- I have used Charlie's for ten years with no complaints. . My only problem was stinky workout clothes (and when I looked up remedies for that it seems EVERYONE has trouble getting the sink it if synthetic workout clothes). Baking soda fixed it. I just recently switched from detergent to Crystal Wash balls, though, otherwise I'd still be using Charlie's. |

Re: Why do my clothes smell?
Charlie Soap was fine the first place we lived (where we lived the longest with 2 boys in diapers and a front loader). I still use Charlie Soap, but now I add some other stuff when needed.
