Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
I'm starting to plan for next year, and DS is ready for pre-algebra. He's mathematically inclined, so I want to make sure this part of his education is solid.
Ideally, I'd like to find him an online course that provides access to an instructor. I've found a few courses (WTM Academy, K12, etc...) but they're all over $800 for just one course, which is really expensive compared to our tuition for other classes that we take locally. I'd prefer to pay $200-300 for his math course. The local math class is at a time he can't attend, hence why I'm looking at other options. |

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
I think that price is pretty normal. Math-u-see offers online courses that are closer to your price range, but I'm guessing that's not the curriculum choice you are looking for. I think it's been solid, but it's not really challenging for a math person.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
I haven't seen anything in that price range, especially for the rigor you are looking for.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
Have you ever looked in to VideoText?
We have the DVD's, but I think they have an online version. They have a hotline students can call if you need to talk to a live person for help. My degree is in Secondary Math Education, and I really like how this program teaches the math. The entire program is around $800, but it included Pre_alg, Alg 1 and Alg 2. I am sure you can figure out which modules correspond to Pre-Alg.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
I think AoPS falls in between those price ranges.
I liked the pre-algebra course but the sequence is different--> no graphing at all is taught; I assume they'll do it in Algebra 1.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
Maybe the high end of normal. Our math class next year will be $550 I think. Our science classes $700.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
We are wrapping up pre algebra with Mr. D....it is an amazing curriculum. He has a live class option, which my son enjoyed, but totally not necessary. Mr. D teaches math as a language and makes difficult concepts easy. I highly recommend it!!

https://www.mrdmath.com/curriculum/pre-algebra/ From what I saw this site is much more affordable. Thanks, I'd never heard of it.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
Yes, that's the website info for his math program. Simply amazing! He makes learning algebra easy. I just wish there was a tad bit more drill. I just have my son redo the same problems every so often. Hopefully you like it and find that it works well for your needs.

Re: Pre-Algebra Online Course Options?
I probably won't use it (I used to be a math teacher) but I like to hear about good, affordable programs to share with people who ask.
