Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
If you get yours from a regular, old grocery/big box/department store, what kind do you buy and from where? I am having the hardest time getting my Charlie's Soap since we moved and my CD storefront is over an hour away.
If you order online, from where? How much time do you order in advance before you run out? I keep waiting too long

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
I just buy it at Walmart or Sam's Club - regular Tide powder! It's been working great for us for over two years now.

Amazon. I buy country save in the powder. It comes in a case of 4 boxes for around $70. That does all of our laundry, not just diapers for a year. I have a regular top loader and we have a water softener.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
Are there any special considerations when using tide? My diapers are prefold with a few pul covers.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
All Free & Clear (or the Costco/Kirkland generic) works for us.
From talking to people, it seems you can get by using a small amount of conventional detergent if you're washing prefolds & covers- if you're using a front loader with microfiber, that's when a cloth-diaper-specific detergent comes in handy.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
We have weird water so I *need* to use RnG or I get awful buildup. Use whatever you want - just be prepared for repelling issues after a while...then all you gotta do is strip them. Depending on your water the stripping can be a long time between or not!!

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
For our prefolds and covers, I use a small amount of Trader Joe's brand detergent.
So far, so good. I have an old washer, top loader. |

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
I don't use prefolds but I do use Flip organic inserts which are similar. I just use the powder scoop up to the 1 line and it works great. I've never had stinkies or buildup issues and I never, ever have to strip the diapers with this routine. It works very well for me. I do a cold rinse, hot wash w/ the detergent, and another cold rinse and have had great success with it for over two years now.

I get RnG from Amazon, but I have also ordered several sample packets from Abby's Lane before when I wasn't ready to order a whole package. She ships really fast.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
Right now, I make my own. I had to eliminate commercial detergents from the "cause-of-the-epic-diaper-rash" list.
I mix together 1 c borax, 1 c washing soda, and 1/2 c oxyclean, use about 2 tbsp depending on how soiled the load of diapers is.

That might make me stay on top of ordering CD specific detergent. We shall see.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
I think it does a perfectly fine job on it's own. It's not super sudsy, but the diapers are clean. As a extra cleaning boost, I now toss a capful of tea tree oil and approx. 1/4 c bleach in the wash as well.

Re: Where do you get your cloth diaper detergent?
Update: I got two refills on my 80 load Charlie's soap containers . Long story short, DH got the day off and we went to visit family so we passed through the town where the CD storefront is located. Woot woot! And it only costs $10.99 per refill if you bring back the container. We can't beat that!
