Transferring videos onto DVD

We still have videos from when my two oldest were born. We were over at my SIL's on Labor Day and she was showing us old videos that she had transferred at Costco and we were loving them and laughing hysterically. They were great because there was an index on the cover, so you could see what was on the video, as well as a menu on the actual disc so it was easy to choose scenes. It's $18/video so it would cost us almost $800

. MIL just gave us $600 for something and I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and doing it because these are precious memories and I want to be able to watch them as a family and laugh together. BUT....do you think DVD's are going to be obsolete? Is it even worth it? Asking in case anyone here is more techy, and has any insight for me. Thanks!

$18/video doesn't seem too bad to me.....

Sounds like a great price, I'd probably only do 2 or 3 at a time not all at once but I'm pretty stingy like that

I know Walgreens does this, but I'm not sure of the price or if they would let you use a coupon/discount. Maybe try a local camera place too, they often do this. It would be so fun to have, but yes, expensive! Ugh.

Have you tried calling around to smaller places? They may offer a discount if you have so many to transfer. Also, have you looked into getting a machine to do it yourself? I don't know exactly what it would be, but I'm guessing just something you can get at an electronics store.

I looked into this last year and came up with a huge price too. It wasn't until just now that I put the idea together to buy a machine...

I haven't called around yet, but have been told by techy friends that it's a good price. Someone told me they've seen great Groupons too so I may keep my eye out for that.
