Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
A friend is giving away their futon. We are going to get it for dd1. Then her bed can go to dd2 (dd2's bed is really old). Also when we have company she can lay the futon out and have room for two.
Just going to be tricky to get it into her bedroom.

I think that sounds like a really fun idea if it fits.

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
If it fits and would also make sure it is comfy to sleep on. So will she be sleeping on it every night or in there with another bed? When we had one we got a somewhat padded mattress pad that had straps in corners to put on over the futon to make it more comfortable to sleep on.DD might also want to leave it made up lke a bed and put pillows against the wall kind of day bed style. The one we had wasnt really large enough to sleepon unless it was folded down. The double sized ones are usually size of a large twin

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
This will be her bed. I laid on it and the cushion/mattress is very thick. I thought it was comfy. Going to let her lay on it when we go to get it to be sure she wants it.
I figure, it's free, she can use it as her bed for a year or two then we can get some debt down and buy her a brand new twin set and sell the futon for $40.

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
It def worked for my dd to sleep on one but the one we had ws at a slant if not folded down and it was ind of a pain to fold up and down each time so you may want to consider keeping it made upi bed mode and using the pillows against wall idea if she wants to sit on it during day

Not weird at all.
As long as it's comfortable I'd definitely do it.

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
I don't think it's weird.
When I was in my 20s and my job transferred me from Chicago to Texas, I ended up buying a futon on sleeping on it for a couple of years. When we go to my sisters home to visit, one of the 2 sleeping area's we use is a futon. If she is comfy and happy I don't see it as weird at all. In fact, I think its a great idea. She has a comfy sitting place in the day that turns into a bed at night. :thumbup

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
Thanks everyone.
I've had this friend measure the futon for me because we have an L shaped hallway to get it down and dd's doorway is at the end. I think we can make it work, have to turn it up on end and maybe open it up flat to wiggle it through her door. Dh gave me a funny look when I told him about it.

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
My brother had a futon in high school. He loved it because he could have his friends over and turn it into a couch and then back to a bed. My mom did have trouble getting him to keep sheets on it, though. So I would talk about that from the get-go if it does change to a couch.

Re: Will it be weird to have a futon in dd's bedroom?
We got the futon today. My husband son opened it flat and carried it right in! I was amazed it turned the 90 degree hallway turn so easily! Answered prayers.
And then dd got invited to spend the night with a friend, so she won't sleep on it until tomorrow night. ha! But now ds2 has a mattress instead of an air mattress. But he was so upset and crying that he wanted his air mattress back. He was okay by bedtime. I told dd1 that maybe she'll use it for a year or two and then we'll buy her a new mattress set. (I want to get debt paid off first) Can't beat free!
