Default The screaming has to stop (3 y/o)

R has this very high pitched loud scream. This has just started the past couple of days. And every time he does it the sound of it makes A cry. If you have met A, you know she doesn't cry very often. This same scream has woken her from naps.

I need ideas. I need it to stop.

Ugh. Have you been able to see a pattern for what precipitates the scream?

Interested in your responses...my 3 yr old likes to scream too. I'm pretty sure for her it's just that she has a loud hi pitched voice! She screams when she's happy, sad, excited or fearful.

So we constantly remind her to lower her voice. A whisper in the ear to remind her, calms her and me. Sometimes I'll cover my mouth and say 'shhhhhhh' ....when her screams need immediate attention I'll remind her by gently cupping her mouth and saying 'shhhhh'

Not a fan of babies being woken by screaming toddlers

Yo gabba gabba inside voice on YouTube?

Is your yard fenced? "that's and outside voice so you belong outside til you're ready for an inside voice." that sounds kind of above a three year old tho and could backfire if he wants outside.

"You can scream in your room or outside, or you can stop. Which one do you want to do?" or some variation is how we roll here.

Ugh. I relate. I sometimes have him scream as loud as he possibly can into a pillow, which totally muffles the sound. It helps sometimes, but not when he's randomly screaming out of the blue. worse, the baby will join in and I feel like crawling right out of my skin. It makes me sweaty and angry.

screaming into a pillow might work.

He doesn't have a room, he shares with me right now. The other kids' rooms are upstairs, off limits to kids who majorly lack impulse control.

Going outside isn't a good idea for a lot of reasons.

No. It just started and I think he is doing it b/c he gets a response, but I don't know for sure.

[QUOTE=Psyche;4619159]Yo gabba gabba inside voice on YouTube?

I'm here to say that yo gabba works!!!! I have a toddler with all kinds of eating issues. Who would have thought that yo gabbas, "Try it, you'll like it" could get him to eat anything now even green beans! And he sings it everytime. So, why not, try it with the screaming!!

I'm gonna try it too cuz I have the same problem with a 2 1/2 yr old that screams to wake my baby up! I will say that I tell him his little best friend who happens to be our neighbor is sleeping, cuz he cares about that, not his own brother. Haha.

I agree with screaming outside. I'd make sure there was nothing else around her outside-no toys- just one spot where she can scream until she is tired of it.
