Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
I would guess brown sugar, but maybe use a little bit less??? I think a liquid sweetener would affect the texture more.
Whatever you choose.... report back!!!!

well i'm not much on experimenting, so i prolly won't try anything unless someone gives me a report on something that's tried and true.

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
if you don't use sugar, it won't work. I mean, it may work, but it won't set up like a cookie. You might have to eat it with a spoon.

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
ok, i found out that you can substitute brown sugar for white sugar at a 1:1 ratio. so i'm gonna try that.

I just remembered that I did try a batch with reduced sugar a while back and it was a bust.

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
They do set right, though I add just a little extra oatmeal and use a little less honey than I would sugar. I think they just taste like chocolate, but then again I like honey so I guess you'd have to experiment to see if you'd like it.

I LOVE these and have been making them like crazy lately! It would be nice to have a variety! Do they taste *better* than sugar?

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
With honey or brown sugar, they're frequently gooier or sticky. Edible and tasty, but they lose the special texture. You can make them more like clif bars, though.
When you reduce the sugar too far, you lose the holding power. |

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
the ones made with honey do taste like honey. It's a very specific taste. Some kinds of honey are better than others. I'm not a big fan of clover honey, myself.

Re: no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with natural sweetener
i used 2 cups (packed) of brown sugar in place of the 2 cups of white sugar. the set right, tasted great and the texture was the same too.
guess i'll skip the honey ones if they taste like honey, lol! |
