facebook question

I want to pair down my facebook friends. I have too many, and quite frankly, don't really care about or know a bunch.

(don't worry, not getting *rid* of any gcm'ers). If I just remove the connection, can the people still see me? I feel bad unfriending people, and I just want to be invisible to them. What do I have to do to accomplish that? TIA~

go to your privacy settings, and you can 'block' them, then you will not exist on facebook to them anymore

i created a group of "not friends" under settings, and then changed my security settings so the group "not friends" can't see anything. that way they still think i'm their friend on FB, but if they looked at my profile, not much would pop up, and i don't pop up in their streams anymore. i felt it was less confrontational than just blocking.
