Re: I need an amazing dal recipe
I add a jar of sauce to my crockpot and add red lentils . Manjula's Kitchen on youtube probably has something good though. Vitacost usually has organic Indian spices for a good price if you are like me and can longer get to an Indian market.

Re: I need an amazing dal recipe
This is the dahl that I make all the time. My Hubby loves it too, as does everyone else I cook it for. It's a very flexible recipe too. Sometimes, I omit the tomato, and it tastes just great! It also thickens up as it sits, and is even better the next day! I usually serve it over rice or quinoa. If I wasn't GF, I'd serve it with naan!
Dahl Soup 2 Tbs. butter 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 onion, chopped 1/2 tsp. turmeric 1 tsp garam masala 1/4 tsp. chili powder 1 tsp. ground cumin 1 15 oz. can of diced tomatoes (I use half a can, or one fresh tomato sometimes) 1 cup red lentils 2 tsp. lemon juice 2 1/2 cups vegetable stock 1 1/4 cups coconut milk salt and pepper chopped cilantro to garnish 1. Melt butter in large saucepan and saute the garlic and onion. After 2-3 minutes, add the spices and cook for another 30 seconds. 2. Stir in the tomatoes, red lentils, lemon juice, vegetable stock and coconut milk and bring to a boil. 3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the lentils are cooked. 4. Season to taste and garnish with cilantro. Recipe from Cookshelf Vegetarian |

Re: I need an amazing dal recipe
Yum!! Thank you so much for posting that recipe!
The other day I was looking through The Forks Over Knives cookbook that my mom gave me, and I came across a recipe for dal and decided to try it. The soup I made is similar to this recipe: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recip...recipe=2342191 but like the person who wrote out that recipe (based on the one from the cookbook), I made it with what I had on hand, oh, plus I made it in my crockpot. I used kale instead of spinach, and I added more water, plus I used fresh tomatoes instead of canned tomatoes, and used sweet potatoes instead of red potatoes. I didn't have chili powder or cumin, so I used curry powder.
