Depending on the work needed, you may not need to do GA. Even my 4yo has had some work done with just local and nitrous. I would strongly lean towards putting dental work off until the child is able to do it without general of any kind if possible (especially after another gcm had lots of trouble with her dd afterwards). Obviously depending on the age and personality of the child as well as the extent of work required, that may or may not be possible.
