Default How to Mark Stainless Steel?

I want to permanently personalize my stainless thermos. I tried a Sharpie, but it wore off in a couple of weeks.

I was thinking of fingernail polish. I can't think of any other ideas.

You can use something like a Dremel to engrave into the metal. Or you could chemically etch it with an acid.

You'd have to google how to get the best results for what you have.

Nail polish might work. Enamel paint for building model cars (from a hobby shop) would probably work, too. If you google metal markers, there are some for industrial usage.

I'm not sure about food safety, though, for any of those. I think I'd sooner hang beads on the handle or something.

I used nail polish for band instrument cases last year, and it has held up until now. We don't wash the cases, though.

I wonder if acid for wart removal would work? Sometimes the bottles come with a brush attached.

I have nail polish on my stainless steel water bottle. It's lasted for years.

This is for the outside, not near the lip part, and I only drink unsweetened hot tea in it, so I tend to rinse the inside between uses. I would have thought the Sharpie would have lasted longer.

I'll try nail polish. If that doesn't last, I'll look at metal markers and/or enamel paint.

You can re-sharpie it, but then put a piece of packing tape over the markings. The tape keeps the sharpie fresh and can be removed/redone whenever. I did this with the boys bottles. It keeps the silver look even with the tape over it and isn't as obvious as a piece of paper under tape (which I did at first -- but when the tape wears enough that the paper gets wet, it's really icky).
