Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
Thanks, you guys. I would totally put this on my blog, but I have one friend who reads who is a pretty firm Pearl follower. I know she would take it really personally, so . As much as I disagree with her on most things, (and as much as she's hurt me in the past) I hate to hurt someone. But feel free to post to fb! (I mean, obviously, this is a public forum )

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
Two hours later:
I'm sorry dinner isn't ready my lord, but there was a power failure-a blown transformer due to this thunderstorm. Of course, it's 100% my fault we don't have power and the stove won't work. I tried to light the grill to cook dinner, but it's pouring down rain...yes, I know that's my fault too. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to ask permission to speak. |

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
I did love what you wrote, and hats off to you!!! But, I don't think that I would share it, for the simple fact that I would lose any credibility with my spanker friends. Several of them are open to dialogue, and this would just immediately end that. And as much as it points out the irony of what the Pearl followers believe, I think it would just come across as hate filled to them. Sort of like how the 'Mama's Excuses' comes across to GCMers. Just my

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
When sarcasm is what passes for critical thinking, though...sometimes it's worth using their own M.O. to make a point becoming all things to all people
For the record, the woman who introduced me to the Pearls is truly a wonderful, soft spoken, gentle person. I think she has learned to tune out my occasional ranting on FB, just as I don't comment on things she posts that I disagree with. We have a very live and let live thing between us I wouldn't use this level of satire with her, at all...it would be hurtful (and I wouldn't appreciate it if she were that satirical w/me because it isn't what our relationship is. I am absolutely beyond snarky w/some of my dearest peeps, as they are with me ) But there are people that absolutely should read it...both those who speak fluent satire and may be swayed by this, and those just being introduced to the Pearls. I hope they read both articles! After all, what sane person would think "oh noes! I don't dare be like *those* women that hug their kids!!" I think there is a huge difference between satire and mean and I don't feel the OP crossed a line at all |

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
Oh, I don't think the OP was being mean at all I just think that punitive parents would read it and it would come across as mean.

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
That list is really good. Here's one that just popped into my head:
"A gun safe? Trigger lock? No, see, my children learn from a very young age that guns are a big no-no. In fact, if people would simply leave a loaded gun in the floor of their children's rooms and then switch them with a length of PVC pipe every time they even look at it, then we'd never have a need for gun safes. I could use my baby's diaper as a holster right now with a round in the chamber and he'd be perfectly safe. His will to touch the gun was properly broken at seven months." |

Re: The Pearls' Excuses (A Satire)
Joy, that is exactly why I won't post it to my blog... There are definitely some ppl who would be hurt by it.
Dh did post it to the Pearls site though (I was too chicken to!). I'd fall out of my chair if they posted it! |
