For those incredibly hard days...

If you could make your own decor, and had a incredibly hard day or season, and you could put a truthful yet encouraging or cheering plaque or sign on your wall, what would it be?

I gave my neighbour a scripture the other day and suggested she did the same thing with that verse, in whatever simple way. The one for her I got from literally the words she was using in her conversation with me and realised it was perfect.

The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy. Psalm 126:3.

So good to remember God's faithfulness and blessing on us.

During a particularly difficult point a couple of years ago, I changed my desktop to a quote from Doctor Who, and it made me feel hopeful every day:

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant." - The Doctor

But it would probably be too long and strange for a plaque for a wall.

At the time, though, and for many months afterwards, I needed the reminder that the bad thing that had happened didn't mean all the good things were ruined too.

These are some of the verses I've been clinging to over the past year

Deuteronomy 31:6- "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Exodus 14:14- "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

John 16:33b- "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

I'm thinking of one that says "Be gentle with yourself." Another idea is to just have "El Roi." It means something along the lines of "The God who sees me." It is pretty easy to feel unappreciated (and a lot of other "un-") as a mom. But God sees me and He knows all I'm responsible for, y'know?
