lightening black fabric?
I have a long black cardigan that I love, but I'm purging all my black (t2). It's 100% cotton. Could I bleach it? How else could I try to lighten it?

Re: lightening black fabric?
I can't imagine bleach turning it a pleasant color, and fading it in hot water and the dryer would just shrink it and make it look worn out. Maybe bleach followed by dye? Since I'm also a T2 who purged her black last year, I'll keep you company and wait for a better answer. How do you feel in the cardigan when you wear it open with a good color top underneath?

Re: lightening black fabric?
I would try a color remover and then dye brown since it would be close to black. Might be worth a try.

i dunno, when i've bleached dark colors they ended up kinda yellowish. if you used color remover or bleach, and then dyed it a new color maybe?

Re: lightening black fabric?
Well, many of the T3 ladies bleach blacks and wind up with interesting browny-greens, or dirty purples... Which work for us. But not for you.
I tried using dye removing on a black item and it turned very faded black. If you think you can get away with a black-turned-grey-from-age look, that *might* be an option. |
