Default Chapped lips help :(

Please help. I'm sooo frustrated. I've lived with chapped lips since childhood. I've managed it with putting on Chapstick before bed for a few years, then with eczema meds for like one year (rx from dermatologist).

Then I thought I finally found the trigger - eggs. Went egg free, bam perfect.

Then I had third baby. Now since him, they're also triggered by onions and garlic. I suspected those things really only have sulfur in common, or else I'm allergic to eggs and alliums.

Then we got some water with added minerals including mag sulfate and whoa cow, my lips got so bad. So I switched water and have been very painstaking about monitoring sauces and making things myself so they are garlic and onion free.

I suspected it was maybe yeast. I've had oral thrush before from inhaled steroids and strong abx. Kwim? And all my makeup was really old so, ew, who knows what's going on. And I know sulfur can cause yeast to flare.

So I've treated for yeast (topical anti fungal, all laundry treated with bac out, treating every family member with probiotics, and I've taken three once daily doses of diflucan which has red dye in it btw so yay.) and cut out all the sulfur foods I could think of including dried fruits, wine, onions, garlic, eggs, and water with added minerals.

My lips were awesome for a day and a half! Then I had a cup of organic chai tea with whole cow milk and morena sugar, and a slice of cheese. Bam. Chapped again.

I just want pretty lips. I'm tired of having crusty lips. It's gross.

Default Chapped lips help :(

Wow, I'm sorry, that seems so complicated. Sorry I just have a to offer.

ETA: It sounds like you may be dealing with more than just normal chapped lips, but thought I'd ask - You are getting plenty of healthy fats and keeping hydrated, right?

I don't know how the allergens affect it but I'm prone to chapped lips and lanolin works the best for me.

Yeah, lanolin is great, and Blistex can really help, too. I'm sorry about the food frustrations. I wish you could figure something out that would *stick*.

That sounds really frustrating. I have a recipe for home made body butter that I use as Chapstick when I need something. I can post it you want. It has beeswax, jojoba, cocoa butter, and honey. Lots of honey.

Oh yeah...that's the problem with going to the doctor...dehydration wouldn't account for twenty years of chapped lips. I used to drink a gallon of water a day and still had to manage my lip chapped ness.

Why does it take regular application of products to help it?? Kwim? It shouldn't. Man was not born with chapped lips. I mean maybe some babies are at birth...anyways!

I'd get zero help going into the doctor and saying yes I'm nursing and I mostly only drink coffee, otherwise my metabolism plummets and my attention span goes out the window.

What a tangled web we weave

---------- Post added at 09:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 PM ----------

Btw I did go to the doctor over the summer and tell them that my metabolism sucked and I was exhausted and couldn't focus...he suggested I lose weight and get more active. Thaaaanks

ime chapstick makes it worse - actually dries out my lips. Lanolin - I would just use the nursing mother's stuff when I was nursing - and unpetroleum products work a lot better for me.

It could be an allergic reaction - and, possibly, to something in your environment and not necessarily your diet. Have you seen an allergist?

I had a slice of ds1's cinnamon apples (just apple slices and cinnamon) last night and my chest got tight like it does when I eat bananas.

Does cinnamon often bother you? Cinnamon bothers my youngest a LOT and we couldn't figure it out. We recently realized we were using the "bad" kind of cinnamon.

Well anyway you might have seen this already,
http://nursegonenatural.com/what-you...make-you-sick/

Or do you think it was the peel of the apple? I can't handle apple peels. my mouth and lips break out in sores from them and my tongue gets all itchy. I have similar reactions to kiwi and mango but I haven't figured out exactly why...I just avoid them.

I am really considering doing a hard core "strict" Paleo Autoimmune protocol for a year. I just don't know if this is the season to do it. I have done it for a few weeks at a time to reboot, but it's hard and would take a big commitment to do it for a long time.

I was considering aip too although you're right about it needing to be the right season. My oldest ds needs it as well but my mil parades all kinds of junk through the house so it would just be asking for trouble.

The apples were peeled. It was definitely cheap "cinnamon" on the apples, but the tazo chai tea was not cheap and should not have contained the fake stuff

One of my worst ever break outs involved a staph infection after dh switched to a cinnamon tooth paste, so I def think this link is worth following, I'm just not sure where to head next with it....I might take a few days off and then retry the tea. Or the apple. Either one.

My lips feel great today. I applied probiotic powder mixed with almond oil. They feel almost normal.

Could it be your lips need to be coated before you eat anything, like a barrier? Maybe it is the things touching them more than allergies.

Yesterday was bad again.

I've been showing signs of oral allergy syndrome to carrots, spinach, maybe the apple now too. Maybe it's related to that?

A GSE ointment with glycine healed my sons mouth sores before but he had to keep applying until it was really healed.I think the raw honey helps because it helps heal but also makes that protective barrier on lips
