Handmade gifts for baby showers?

Can you think of any great homemade gifts to give to mamas and new babies?

Knit or crochet hats, sweaters, dresses, blankets, wool soakers, bibs, amigurumi.

Sewn diapers, burp cloths, quilts, clothes, taggie blankets, stuffed toys.

Herbal diaper balm or powder, lotion, soap.

Ummm I'm out of ideas

What do you like to give??

I don't do homemade but would like to get it. Christmas ornaments, teethers, I'd love hooded towels or big muslin swaddlers. I got several knit and crocheted baby blankets which I really disliked. We never used them and one was made from scratchy yarn (not nice wool, maybe Red Heart?) so I didn't even want to set her on it to play. A lady here makes an herbal mix for sitz baths that I wish I'd had.

I cannot understand why people make scratchy baby blankets.

I wouldn't like said gift if it weren't my taste in style/color, but I'd feel obligated to keep it FOREVER because it was homemade. I'd ask receiver for preferences.

I really don't understand why elderly ladies continue to use scratchy yarn when Wal-Mart is full of very soft, very inexpensive yarns

I love crochet but honestly I don't use it for making baby blankets, because they're full of holes that baby fingers and toes can get caught in.

We keep using our homemade (soft!!!) baby blankets, and my sensory-seeking children like the holes. They are 5 and 7. I don't think most people *use* homemade blankets outside of photo shoots when babies are little anyway.

Do other people actually use them?

Oh, yes, sewn fabric blankets were used daily in our house too.

My favorite was sewn by a friend's mom.

We don't use the knit/crocheted ones daily though. Just for pictures. But we use them very frequently now!

I knit baby blankets and sweaters. I use a very soft acrylic so that they are machine washable and easy to care for.
