Default Anyone live in Indiana?

We're trying to think about where we're going to move to and Dh's job does have transfers to Indiana, which seems to be a great homeschooling state.

Anyone live there? Thoughts?

Is north east (by Ft Wayne) or below Indianapolis better? We're hoping for cheap housing and land...from doing a cursory search the real estate seems really cheap (compared to here at least) Are the People generally nice? Churches?

Thanks, Dh thinks I'm nuts, but we're planning on moving in 1-1 1/2 years so I wanna start planning now.

Fort Wayne is a very nice place for families. And the northern Indy suburbs are very nice, too.

And yes, housing prices are very cheap.

I don't know that I would call Carmel/Fishers/Geist {north Indy} home prices cheap, but to each her own I guess.

There are about an equal # of churches to bars in most towns, a few even have churches that meet in bars, which is an interesting method of revolutionary church.

I'm partial to Columbus/Seymour myself. Second to that would be the actual town of Greenwood, not the whole 31 South shopping mecca area, but south of that toward down town Greenwood. Third would be New Albany but again, kind of pricey IMO.

I've lived in Indiana most of my life (DH & I lived in Chicago for several years too). We live in Bloomington (about an hour south of Indy) now and I absolutely love it. It's a very diverse university (Indiana University) town with a lot of natural living families. We found a home church quickly (tried 3 Church(s) of Christ and loved this one). I love the balance of a small town but it's got the culture of a larger town and it's very central to lots of metro areas (Chicago, Louisville, St. Louis, Cincy and of course Indy). This is where we're putting our roots down permanently. We also lived in Evansville for several years and it's nice but never really felt like home like it does here. Pretty much anywhere in Indiana will be relatively cheap compared to most other places but it's all relative. Good luck planning! That's part of the fun!

I'm partial to the Columbus/Bloomington area. Columbus being my hometown, Bloomington being one of my favorite cities ever.

I have a HSing friend in Fort Wayne and she loves the HS community there & the natural-living community.

Lol. DDs would have gone to Parkside/Northside/North if we had ended up in C-bus. *ducks* Mostly because East is more geared to degree track, fast paced, etc. With their learning issues there's no way they would have made it at East.

I live in Indiana. I can recommend a great church near me , actually several if you were heading toward the Eastern part of Indiana. I know of a good church in Ft Wayne too as I have relatives there.

Any thoughts about Greenwood?

I'm thinking I want to be closer to Indianapolis, I want close access to the zoo and children's museum.

Thanks, I'm getting so excited! We're going to visit in the fall!!

I love Greenwood itself. Not the commercial part, but Old Town, south of the mall and that sort of thing, some of the older neighborhoods between 31 S and 135, etc.
