If I thought I would ever turn it back into a garage, I would just put a temporary wall behind. If I wanted it to be permanent, I would want to put a window or two in and have the siding match the rest of the house.

My cousin did a temporary version and converted the garage into a tv/rec room. There is a false ceiling above and temporary wall put across so the the garage doors can still open. There are a few feet of space so bikes and sports equipment can be stored in the front. Her children are now 19 and 17 so they might only be home for a few more years. Another reason they might have done this is that the daughter needed a grand piano to practice on for her level of playing. They lost their family room area in the house with the grand piano.

Another friend did the full conversion in her rancher, and has a rec. room that is away from the rest of the house (perfect for loud teens) and has nice high ceilings because her garage was built at a lower grade than the rest of the house. They also built a detached garage, though.
