The bananas get cut into corn-size pieces first, then smaller pieces so they look gritty. But then it all clumps up into a ball and that's when it's ready. Mine was not very soft, more like hard soft-serv (or slightly softened hard-serv??) The food processer seems to work too quickly to thaw them much. I don't mind half-melted ice cream, but half-melted bananas aren't so appetizing. These were fine, pretty thick.
