I used this coffee cake recipe since I was a teenager. I think it was in an old betty crocker cookbook. I usually double it and put it in a 9x13 pan. I use a mixer to mix the topping instead of a fork and I usually only put half the butter in.
CAKE BATTER
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cups sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoons
1/4 cups shortening
3/4 cups milk
1 egg
TOPPING
1/3 cups brown sugar
1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 Tablespoons firm butter
Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease pan. Blend all cake ingredients. Spread in pan. Mix topping ingredients with a fork. Sprinkle topping on cake. 8x8 pan Bake in oven 25-30 minutes.
