We eat that, but we don't crush the fava beans, we eat them whole, but dh is Syrian, not Egyptian...At least I think Egyptians eat their foul moudammas that way.
We add crushed garlic, tomatoes, fresh parsley, lemon juice and tahini to whole boiled fava beans. Around Ramadan, mil would boil a lot of fava beans and everyone was eating them like one would eat chips or peanuts or something, like a snack with a mix of cumin, lemon powder, and salt to dip them in. You can do the same thing with boiled chickpeas.
