The special needs ministry I work with is doing a service project from October- December. At our October meeting I need a craft idea that my participants can work together to make in order to pack care packages in December.
So, the crafts are going to be packed into care packages for adults with disabilities who live in group homes. I will have about 30 people (all of whom have special needs themselves) making the gifts but we only need to make 10 items total.
I was kind of thinking those "no-sew" fleece blankets that you just knot all around the edge would be right on par with what we need. Most the people who come to our meetings are pretty limited in their ability to make things. Tie knots, coloring, gluing, placing stickers is kind of where their abilities are. Some can bead, but not all can. Blankets would also be appropriate care package gifts for men and women with disabilities.
Those knotted blankets are just so ugly though.
Is there anything along those lines that is less ugly? (I think the ones where you weave the edges with a crochet hook would be too much for my participants to make.)
We live in New England so we have cold winters. But I think making 10 no-sew hats will not make enough projects for my whole group to get a chance to help make them....although we could make more than 10 and donate the excess to a homeless shelter.
Any other ideas??
