my first comment would be to start on an elimination diet. the ear infections are likely caused by an allergy..likely dairy.
eliminate sugar boost acidophilus.

as for rupturing the membrains I have never heard of manually doing that... L's ear does it all by itself..it typically heals up just fine.

Tubes were helpful for a while....not sure I would do it again..however we are battling an infection that she has had for 6 months... 3 rounds of abx didn't do anything. It is gross.
