True. That's how it was for me as a child.

Although my parents spanked for everything ... even obvious accidents because I shouldn't have been clumsy.

I wonder if the sting wearing off is correlated to the frequency of spankings. If you are getting spanked multiple times per day every day, that might be different from being spanked occasionally over specific things.

But from my observations, it does seem to work pretty well on many kids. Although my belief is that just because it might work doesn't mean it is right.
