How much baking do you do and what kind? When my kids were little I did a LOT of baking. A Kitchen Aid up/down was more than sufficient for everything I needed. But I only baked bread for fun on occasion. It was mostly muffins, cookies, homemade lara bars, etc.
I don't bake very often anymore. Birthdays and holidays and the occasional treat. I use my bread machine on the dough setting at least once a week, though. It is extremely convenient to be able to dump ingredients in and walk away. Then all I have to do is shape it into rolls, pizza dough, etc. at my convenience.
If you do a lot of baking, you may find an expensive appliance worth it. If you don't, it's money you could put elsewhere. Plus it's a big thing to store.
