We just got some xylitol gel for baby girl. She loved it. Hopefully it will keep her well on her way to healthy teeth.

I have had the wisdom teeth pulled on one side of my mouth so i floss that side only when something gets stuck on that side. The kids I dont floss at all.
Clay alone will get teeth clean but I like the smooth feeling pastes leave so I add the extras,

ive never really looked into glycerin. so i had never heard of that before. thats interesting. you made me break out my old list of things that i was gonna use to make my own paste.
From Tom's childrens gel toothpaste, glycerin is used as a moisturizer in their toothpaste (from vegetable oils). I'll just use olive oil instead of glycerin.
It also has:
sorbitol-listed as another moisturizer (dont need that)
water-consistency
xylitol-flavor (i would add a little if we werent sensitive to it, dont need that)
hydrated silica- thats clay for mild abrasion(i have calcium bentonite clay that ill use)
grape extracts-flavor ( maybe a little honey)
xantham gum-suspending agent (who cares if i have to mix it before we put it on our brushed, dont need that)
sodium lauryl sulfate-dispersant (says its derived from coconut oil, i might add some in to see if it improves the texture, dont need that)

So to make a toothpaste equivelant to toms childrens gel toothpaste:
oil
water
clay
ive come full circle

Ive been using that ever since the thread which was 2009 i think
oil-coconut oil or olive oil
water-distilled if im making a big batch
clay-food grade calcium bentonite clay
(to thicken it and give it a nice taste I have used raw honey, I really like that combo and I have also taken weleda toothpaste and added that to the mix)
There's really no measured amounts, it just depends on how much of the ingredients i have handy. It takes hardly any clay to make a difference so dont be worried about having to put a lot in.
A little goes a long way.
